USAGE AND PROGRAMMING
To use this PoC radio, a connection to a PoC server/service as well as a SIM card (data card, M2M card) with 500–1000 MB/month is required. The manufacturer has specifically developed the radio for the Hytera HYTALK service. Monthly or yearly tariffs are available, both of which you can find here in the shop. Other services, such as Zello, can also be used; however, the functionality may be limited.

Fabulous sound, works with Zello (after some adaptation) and great communication with DMR24.com
The Hytera P50 Pro is a Top quality POC radio with a sharp and bright screen, a crystal clear and very loud sound, great microphones (I got nice compliments about my sound to others), durably made and with a fantastic battery life. It’s obviously designed for corporate use (to be programmed with separate software), since, apart from a quick start guide, there’s no extended user manual and the only out of the box installed POC app is HyTalk, Hytera’s professional (and paid) network. For all the technical details, see the site of DMR24.com or Hytera’s.
ZELLO Still… I bought it as a standalone device for use with the Zello network (free version). Though the radio runs on Android 12, you can’t access the play store directly to download other software. Only by connecting the device to your computer with PC software like ‘Total Control Light’, or ‘Vysor’ for Mac, or ‘scrcpy’ (open source), you can then ‘drag’ the Zello apk to the radio, to have it installed there automatically. From then on you can work with the radio itself for further tapping of passwords or changing settings, through the small buttons below the screen, or keep it connected (or reconnect) with your computer for faster typing.
P50 PRO AT WORK WITH ZELLO: I can confirm that the device PTT-button can work with the Zello app, if you point the Zello app to it in the configuration settings. Through Bluetooth connectivity I was able to pair my standard set of earbuds and they could also work as a microphone. My earbuds’ buttons didn’t work with the PTT, but for that you can easily buy any Bluetooth PTT- or camera button. Hytera has a bluetooth earpiece that should work with the PTT-button as well, though that needs to be tested first to make sure that it works, before you buy it for ±100 Euro.
DMR24.COM The communication with DMR24 was absolutely nice and lightning fast. Even before the next day arrived, I got answers to my questions. When I bought the device, it was sent to me over DHL for just 9,99 Euro, including shipment tracking. All arrived well and even on a Saturday noon.
CONCLUSION: The Hytera P50 Pro is a dream machine for corporate use, but also for private use with Zello, if you don’t expect an extensive user manual or an out-of-the-box readiness for working with Zello. Although Zello, from the end of June 2025 will no longer support Android versions below 7 (or iOS versions below 14), even if they would repeat this every year with Android 8 as next, then 9, … this Hytera P50 Pro device with Android 12 will surely last for many years.
